At Aschfords Law we are committed to providing a cost effective service. We offer initial fixed fee consultations for all new prospective clients and we can also provide fixed cost services for certain matters. Our cost will be confirmed and fixed after we have been able to assess the complexity and the time that we anticipate your case may take.

Fixed Fee First Consultation

We will first arrange a meeting with you, where we will discuss your case in detail and consider any relevant paperwork that you may have. We will then advise you of the best options available for you; the procedure; costs involved and the estimated time frame to resolve your matter. If you are unable to attend our office in person for any reason, we can arrange your first consultation over the telephone or WhatsApp video call, for a face to face conversation.

 Fee Structure

It is a policy of this firm to ensure that every client, no matter how big or small their matter, is kept well informed of their costs. We will set out our charging information at the outset of the matter in order for you to make an informed decision on whether you wish to proceed with our services. All client care letters and quotes sent have a validity period of 14 days. We constantly review our charge-out rates to ensure that our fees are competitive and fair.

We have provided the below table in relation to what you may expect the cost of our service to be. If the facts of your case are complex and/or there are unforeseen circumstances, the cost may exceed the fees specified in the table below.

Disbursements

The Home Office/ Court fees and any associated expenses for third parties are not included in our professional fee and are paid by you directly to the relevant authority/company. The table below relates to our legal fees only. An example of disbursements and other cases may include, but are not limited to:

  • Visa application fees;
  • NHS fees (known as the IHS surcharge);
  • Probate Court Fee;
  • Translation of documents;
  • English language exam (and preparation if relevant);
  • Expert reports;
  • Court Fee;
  • Postage; and
  • Photocopying documentation;

Many of the above example disbursements may not apply to your case and are listed to give an indication of typical legal disbursement costs. As these fees do not relate to fees set by Aschfords Law, we are unable to confirm the cost until we are formally instructed to act for you in your case.

Complaints Procedure

We want to give you the best possible service. However, if at any point you become unhappy or concerned about the service we have provided then you should inform us immediately, so that we can do our best to resolve the problem.

In the first instance it may be helpful to contact the person who is working on your case to discuss your concerns and we will do our best to resolve any issues. If you are not satisfied then you can make a formal complaint to the senior director of the firm. Making a complaint will not affect how we handle your case.

What to do if we cannot resolve your complaint

The Legal Ombudsman can help you if we are unable to resolve your complaint ourselves. They will look at your complaint independently and it will not affect how we handle your case.

Before accepting a complaint for investigation, the Legal Ombudsman will check that you have tried to resolve your complaint with us first. If you have, then you must take your complaint to the Legal Ombudsman:

  • Within six months of receiving our final response to your complaint and
  • No more than one year from the date of act/omission; or
  • No more than one year from the date when you should reasonably have known there was cause for complaint.

If you would like more information about the Legal Ombudsman, please contact them.
